Everyone knows about Edition 38.
E38 have been organising shows for years, they’re old hands at this type of thing. Known best for their big weekend event in September, filling the gap between Ultimate Dubs and Wörthersee (well, depending on when you leave, of course) is their baby sister event, Early Edition.
It's 24th April 2016. The Saints, Franklin Gardens, Northampton is the venue and VW’s are the name of the game. We sent our resident snapper Sam Rutter along to check out what EE ’16 had in store.
This year’s event unfortunately clashed with other events including early Wörthersee deserters, but as they say, the show must go on…
From Wolfsburg, Germany;
Adam Rickard’s Golf R is one hell of a complete car. With its new Messer rolling stock, this car is a serious all-rounder. The Recaro A8’s are a classy addition to the innards and the engine, an MRC built 460bhp/540nm monster provides plenty of go to back up the show. I can’t help but follow this cars evolution with huge respect, what’s next Adam…?
On the subject of Golf R’s, I love the simplicity of Carl Robinson’s OEM ‘Pure White’ R. Big brakes, big wheels, re-trimmed Recaro Pole Positions, this car is perfectly executed and the overall look is definitely more than the sum of its parts...
This Phaeton is pure 2006 company CEO spec. This car shares the same chassis as the Bentley Continental, so wheel choice is easy; 5 spokes of 21” Bentley goodness. I’ve always liked the look of these big VW’s which, in my opinion are made so much cooler by their rarity in the UK. Demand in China has kept the production run for VW’s biggest offering going. If I’m honest, I had assumed they stopped making them altogether but VW say they still make 4000 a year, with half of that number shipped to China. Who knew?
This Mk4 Anniversary looks nicely tweaked whilst also appealing to OEM fetishists. Bagged with a set of BBS RC's (the nice concave ones) bolted up, they set this car off rather nicely.
This TTS looks rather purposeful. We assume it's static, we assume it gets driven properly, very nice...
The Carpark Heroes;
We couldn't help but give the non-VAG metal some airtime...
Our boy Chris Philips showed up in his impossibly static Lexus IS200. He’s not one for being practical. In fact, you could argue that he’s done everything he can to make his car less good as an actual car. We love it. Flying the flag for non-VAG, Chris’ IS200 was back on the Enkei’s and still looking tough, we think his next step should be big power. What do you reckon?
Dan Taylor made the trip in his E46 M3. It was on air, now it’s static. We can’t keep up! Stepped up 18” RF’s look well, in fact, is this the best overall look yet for this car? We think so…
Ben Hughes owns one serious slice of R56 Mini. Bagged and sat on RF003’s (i.e. the ridiculously rare 4x100 17” ones), refinished by Wheel Unique, this car stands tall against any VAG competition. A seriously well put together package. Ben’s aggressive little Mini is right up our street.
