We take a sneaky peak at the grassroots US drift scene in another instalment of our Lock City Drift series. Our resident contributor, Kevin Miller, gives his thoughts on SpecialStage, a drift venue in New England playing host to the Lock City Drift guys. Over to you, Kevin...
Late July, it's hot and humid outside, but never too hot to go drifting here in New England. Lock City Drift takes on SpecialStage at the Canaan Motor Club road course in Canaan. Up until this point I have only covered the Thompson Speedway events because logistically I could never get to Canaan but the cards were in my favour for July 22nd.
I woke up a little late but got on the road and got to the event just in time to catch the A-Class drivers taking to the track. I took some time to walk around the track and get my bearings as I hadn’t shot a drift event since April. Once I got warmed up and located the best spots, I packed up my gear and took a hike out to the woods along the backside of the track to get some really prime shooting locations in. This course allows for a lot more vantage spots over Thompson.
Over the course of the day I hiked around the entire perimeter of the track, only pulled one tick off me and filled both of my SD Cards. Once my SD cars are full, that’s always my cue to pack up and head home. Many many GBs of photos makes this the most coverage I have ever pulled from a single event. I hope to keep filling cards in the future. Canaan Motor Club served up some great drifting action, we will be back!
