June 2016, time once again to head down the A3 towards the southern coast of England to Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Players Classic. We all know this show. And only for the very best reasons.
If you’re a show-goer and into cars no matter what the brand or model, then Players Classic is always high-up on the hit-list.
Christ knows how but organisers Carl Taylor and Jay McToldridge always seem to get the best of the best there, which is exactly the reason this event is so good. It takes all cars from all backgrounds and puts them in one place – not just any place, either – Goodwood. This venue just seems to have an air of awesomeness about it – Its layout, its track; all pretty sweet.
There’s some serious ground to cover, but each area gives you a taste of something different. One minute you’re looking at this Volkswagen Mk1 Golf, body-dropped on three-spokes – a marmite wheel that we personally love – and the next minute you’re fish-slapped hard in the face by this winged-up Toyota GT86. Then, when all that walking and excitement finally hits you, you can just chill out with your mates watching the cars on track – some of which come back around for another down-change and others have to be recovered *cough* Vauxhall Monaro VXR *cough*.
There's a real mix of cars on the track during the day, from daily drivers to full on race cars taking to the track, the atmosphere of the event is like nothing else. As much as it is great to appreciate the craftsmanship of a full on build parked up, to also listen to it coming round the long right hander, through the last chicane and scream past on the main straight, it just adds something more.
Ford lovers, VAG bummers, Jap dribblers – no matter what the make; Players Classic seems to unite us all and this year was no different. The weather was beaut, the odd ass cheek was out and there was no sign of any Audi S4 Avants being written off – all in all, a very good day.
So yeah, it’s safe to say there were a few awesome cars at this year’s Players Classic show – far too many to mention in detail – so we’ll leave you with our image gallery to see what we mean:
Naturally, Players Classic is a show that RollHard is always keen to get involved in and we’re so grateful to everyone that stopped by the stand to say hello. Also massive shout outs go to the awesome motors we had accompanying us, including Vladi’s low Mk3 Vento and Joey Hazel’s lemon flavoured convertible.
