The Volkswagen Show With No Volkswagens.
Ok, so maybe we’re exaggerating slightly, but overall, there certainly was a severe lack of Volkswagens at Ultimate Dubs 2019. There are few inevitabilities in this life, but one thing you can bet on is that there will always be non-VAG cars on display inside at Ultimate Dubs.
Now don’t get us wrong, we’ve been pushing the non-VAG “All Makes, All Models, One Community…” mantra since 2010 and our events have ALWAYS been all-inclusive regardless of bonnet badge, but we just think that the Ultimate Dubs weekend should be a Volkswagen-only zone, which is why you won't see any non-VAGs in our coverage.
Our Tribute To The Volkswagen Golf.
In our eyes, UD should be a showcase of the very best Volkswagens the UK has to offer which is why our coverage is centred around just one marque and our stand was dedicated purely to Volkswagens.
Our plan was always to have three Volkswagen Golfs on the RollHard display, which meant picking our favourite Mk1/Mk2/Mk3s for the event, this was our way of paying tribute to the Golf.
Tom Christian’s very red and very genuine 1980 Westmoreland Mk1 Rabbit (Golf) is a firm favourite of ours, having previously been owned by our RollHard crew member, Chris Newton.
This US spec 5 door is a rare sight on UK shores thanks to being imported from Washington. The Washington number plates are a nod to this cars roots and we absolutely love this car on its new wheel setup.
In the Mk2 Golf corner, we chose Kenny Stas’ incredible Typ19c 8V turbo which made the trip all the way over from Belgium to be at Ultimate Dubs with us. This is one of the finest Mk2s in Europe having been totally restored and modified in every aspect, this is one of the most complete Mk2s we’ve seen in recent years.
With a heavily tuned crossflow 2.0 8V and huge turbo strapped on, the 320bhp+ engine (and bay) are a sight to behold, let alone the rest of the car, which is dripping in top-notch parts.
You’d have to be mad not to appreciate Kenny’s wheel setup, a set of centrelock BBS E50s, tucked perfectly under the arches thanks to millemeter perfect adapters and air-ride. Inside just to finish things off nicely, you’ll find Recaro A8s and a BBS steering wheel, this is one hell of a build and quite rightly picked up one of the prestigious Ultimate Dubs awards at the show.
Guigui Bless' Windsor Blue VR6 is another car which just makes us go weak at the knees. We featured this car last year so if you’re keen to read the story behind his build, click here.
With 17” BBS RS’, air-ride, Recaro Experts, full USDM bumpers and tailgate, this is one of the most simple and effective Mk3s around at the minute. Guigui drove to Telford from just south of Paris in France for the show and we were proud to have his car in attendance.
Gavin Dunbavin's VW Caddy.
We couldn't run Ultimate Dubs coverage without mentioning Gav's crazy creation. This Mk1 Caddy is an impressive home-brew build with a whole bunch of unique touches, namely a Beetle floorpan and tubbed chassis, allowing it to run brilliantly low. We salute you, sir.
The UK Volkswagen scene might be under attack, but UD19 reminded us that there's still life in old VWs yet...
New RollHard Apparel.
We launched our new apparel at Ultimate Dubs 2019, which included a new hoodie, new sweatshirt and new t-shirt designs. Click the image below to visit the RollHard Parts Store...
The Telford International Centre is a large indoor event space which has played host to Ultimate Dubs as a season opener for years now and has established itself as a top-quality indoor venue thanks to Ultimate Dubs and its sister event, Ultimate Stance.
The Telford International Centre has all of the facilities required for a car show with over 100,000 sq.ft of indoor exhibition space and hotels right on its doorstep, this is a good place to host an event.
Both Ultimate Dubs and Ultimate Stance events have acted very much as show season “book-ends”, one opening and the other closing the modified show season calendar, which has always meant that UD is the show where new products and builds get seen for the first time; this year was no different.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand at the show to chat about cars, check out our new apparel and support our little brand. We couldn't do it without you!
Well done to the Ultimate Dubs crew for yet another great event, we'll see you in November for the "Stance" edition.
